SURVEILLANCE MIGRATION AS EARLY WARNING SYSTEM OF MALARIA OUTBREAK AT ENDEMIC DISTRICT IN CENTRAL JAVA, DAERAH ISTIMEWA YOGYAKARTA (DIY) AND EAST JAVA PROVINCES

ABSTRACT

Malaria import case has been health problem in Central Java, DIY and East Java Provinces. Last three years proportion of malaria import case has been increasing, even in some area it have been causing outbreak. Migration surveillance is one of way to find malaria patient in society by getting blood preparation of society who has came and leaved the endemic area.

The research has been done by collecting malaria data in Central Java, DIY and East Java provinces. At central Java the samples were 7 regencies which had import malaria case problem, each of Districts taken 3 public health centres which had malaria case problem. While in DIY and East Java provinces the samples of each provinces were 2 regencies which have import malaria case problem, each of District taken 2 public health centres. The research has been done since February until November 2006. The result showed that Juru Malaria Desa (JMD) or health cadre had important role to select migrants in endemic area. It is done to detect malaria by taking and examining the blood preparation. But for this activity, it needed much of cost.

Politically, head of District’s formal letter is needed in order to move government instances until bottom level like village, so they can be participators. Beside that, it was necessary to district society’s information system in order to monitor the migrants.

The migrations surveillance activities which have been done in these regencies, be expected should be applicant in other regencies at continued research.
